Addendum (August 2007). Summer is a time when I put the notebook away and just enjoy drinking wine without really getting cerebral. But the 2001 Brunello of Lazzeretti , a producer I was not familiar with, deserves special mention. It was a strikingly focussed wine with reserved aromatics on the nose, delicious and complex on the palate and intriguing. Did not take extensive notes but I think this may be one of the top wines of the vintage I have tasted so far. This deserves an upper echelon score of 92+ points. (see Brunello Scoreboard).
